South Downs Way

The South Downs Way runs from the cathedral city of Winchester to the spectacular chalk cliffs of East Sussex, finishing after 100 miles (160 km) at Eastbourne. The route undulates along the northern escarpment of the Downs, offering wide views north over the Weald and south towards the sea.

The Way forms the backbone of Britain’s newest National Park, with landscape ranging from rolling farmland and woods to classic open grassy downland. The area is rich in history and prehistory, with impressive Iron Age hill forts and Bronze Age barrows. This National Trail is well waymarked and can be walked at any time of year, with good public transport links giving flexibility. This guidebook contains all you need to plan and enjoy your walk:
